Garden-Based Learning: An Historical Review

The field of Garden-Based Learning has roots in important philosophical and educational movements, including the nature study movement inspired by the work of Progressive educators, including Liberty Hyde Bailey and John Dewey.

The attached Monograph, prepared by the University of California's 4-H Center for Youth Development, traces the history of the school garden movement, the philosophies that informed it, and links the history with current practice.
