Sonoma County Master Gardeners Helping Sonoma Gardeners

Sonoma Garden Park

The Sonoma Garden Park, located at 19990 East Seventh Street in Sonoma, is an educational campus of the Sonoma Ecology Center. It provides a beautiful, natural environment with educational opportunities for all ages. Sonoma County Master Gardeners are participating with Sonoma Ecology Center staff to teach gardening to children at Sonoma Garden Park.

We are in our third year of collaboration with Sonoma Ecology Center and Garden Park staff. We provide the hands-on learning portion of a 4th grade curriculum for Sonoma area schools each spring and fall. In the summer we are in the Garden with the Ecology Center’s Science Camp. Last year we worked with over 400 children.

It’s July and time to start planning for Garden Camp at Sonoma Garden Park. It’s a great program to spend summer mornings in the Garden Park with Sonoma area kids. The activities are fun and casual. Garden Park staff and MGs plan activities together.  Here are some of them:

  • Measuring sunflowers
  • Seed packets
  • Worm investigation
  • Compost investigation/building
  • Planting, weeding, etc.
  • Flower bouquets
  • Sachets/wands
  • Comparing seeds and plant parts
