Research conducted at the Shafter Research and Extension Center (SREC) is done on a project basis. Typically, approximately 25 ongoing projects are in progress at this Center, each having been reviewed and approved by a committee of academics.
Grants of Center Land, Labor & Facilities to support projects conducted at SREC, may be requested by investigators who hold an academic appointment in the University of California Agricultural Experiment Station or with UC Cooperative Extension. Labor grants are also available to approved USDA academic researchers.

| December 5 - December 20 | SREC staff will review proposals for feasibility and for concurrence with long-term strategic goals of Center. SREC will inform Research Advisory Committee (RAC) members of resources available for upcoming program year, based on budget projections. |
| December 20 - January 15 | RAC members will individually review and rank proposals according to established criteria. |
| February 28 | Project Leaders will receive notification of project approval and Center labor grant, if awarded. Response form will be provided by SREC. |
| March 15 | Project Leader's acknowledgment and acceptance of project approval and labor grant must be received by SREC. |
Call for Proposals
SREC is soliciting proposals for new and continuing research projects for calendar year 2010. Proposals are due Tuesday, December 1, 2009, and proposals received after December 1st will be considered on a space available basis only.
SREC is a cotton research facility located on 120 acres in the Southern San Joaquin Valley. Field, laboratory and greenhouse space is available for cotton and other field crops.
The Center provides labor, equipment, facilities and technical support to UC academics and cooperating organizations such as USDA.
