The Coastside Invasive Plant Education (CIPE) program began in June of 2007; a project created by Master Gardener Shannon Gibbs. The program's emphasis is on educating homeowners, business, and landscapers on the practices of proper non-invasive planting. " I try to point out to everyone I talk with that gardeners do not want to plant something invasive. Gardeners are the stewards of the land and take great pride in their actions. My role is to be supportive of their efforts by supplying educational materials and resources", emphasizes Shannon Gibbs. The CIPE program reaches out to the Coastside communities of San Mateo and San Francisco Counties primarily at local farmers markets and garden clubs. Information booths are run by Master Gardener volunteers and well-stocked with brochures from various California agencies especially the UC Extension program.
