Water Efficient Landscape (WEL)
The Water Efficient Landscape shows that a beautiful garden can thrive in the Sacramento Valley on low amounts of supplemental summer water. This area is composed of five gardens designed to offer a variety of landscaping options. Signs within the garden show their locations, and plants are labeled with markers denoting both common and botanical names.
In addition to water wise plant selection, this demonstration garden incorporates various water efficient landscaping techniques. These include the use of compost (to improve soil structure and fertility), drip irrigation, mulch (to reduce soil moisture loss and weed growth), swales (to capture water), and permeable concrete walks and patios (to prevent run-off).
Welcome!
2008 is the fifth season of growth for the WEL (Water Efficient Landscape) garden. The WEL Garden is open to the public during normal Fair Oaks Park Hours (dawn to dusk). Take a self-guided tour of the gardens, all plants are labeled. Water efficient gardening brochures are offered at the information board inside the garden, near the entrance. Check for workshop dates - come and see us at the center!
