The Research and Information Centers have been developed in response to needs and opportunities to create focal points for UC advisors, specialists, researchers, and our private and public constituencies. Common Center missions include support for statewide extension, outreach and research; resource and information development and distribution; and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration. Primary clientele for each of these Centers are UC Specialists, UC Advisors, UC research faculty, industry, government agencies, and the general public.
Agronomy Research & Information Center (AgRIC)
Provides outreach service, that offers research-based, up-to-date, comprehensive, and reliable information on California agronomic crops to the general public, industry, and governmental and private agencies. The agronomic crops comprise major food, fiber, fuel and forage crops grown on six million acres in California. These include alfalfa, winter cereals (barley, oats, wheat), corn, cotton, dry edible legumes, rice, safflower, sugarbeet, sunflower, and specialty crops (kenaf, lupin, and sesame).
California Rangelands (CRRIC)
Fosters inter-departmental and inter-campus coordination for research, extension and education programs that focus not only on rangelands but also on forest ecosystems that are intermixed with rangeland and often grazed. Fire, grazing, water quality, endangered species, invasive species, and urban-rural conflicts are common elements in these ecosystems that provide multiple goods, services and values. Through research, teaching and extension, the mission of the Center is to help people decide what they want from the land, help them describe the current state of landscapes and their productive potential, and describe the current state of landscapes and their productive potential, and describe alternative management strategies for moving from the landscape's current condition to desired future conditions.
