INTRODUCTION
This is the first issue of what we hope will be a regularly issued e-newsletter covering topics of interest to everyone engaged in pest management related activities in DANR. The primary purposes of the workgroup are to foster interdisciplinary exchange between the pest management sciences and to increase county-campus networking and cooperation in the area of pest management. This newsletter will be one tool we can use to achieve these goals. We have designed this newsletter to link to our workgroup web site at http://groups.ucanr.org/pm/. The web site will contain newsletter archives as well as more detailed information on many topics.
We need your help as workgroup members. The purpose of the newsletter is to keep people across the state informed about pest management news and activities. Regular features of this newsletter will include a report of workgroup activities; lists of conferences, meetings and events; links to funding opportunities; new ANR publications related to pest management; and new ANR staff in Pest Management. To pull this off successfully, we need you to let us know whats happening in your area. Please contact newsletter editor Cheryl Wilen at cawilen@ucdavis.edu with information to include in our next issuedue out in early September.
We hope you will find this newsletter useful and that you will give us feedback about what should be included. We have sent this newsletter to everyone in ANR who has been identified as having an interest in pest management. If you do not wish to be included in these mailings please let us know and we will remove you from the list.
PEST MANAGEMENT WORKGROUP CONFERENCE SET FOR OCTOBER 28-29, 2002
The Pest Management Workgroup biannual meeting will be held in Sacramento at the Embassy Suites Hotel on October 28-29, 2000. Please mark these dates on your calendar. The agenda is still under development by the workgroup steering committee but will include breakout groups on various topics, updates from pest management workgroups, a business meeting to keep you abreast of ANR pest management issues statewide, several forums on cutting edge topics of cross-disciplinary interest and an invited panel of clientele to tell us what we can do to stay relevant. The agenda will be finalized in August. Please contact workgroup co-chair Mary Louise Flint at mlflint@ucdavis.edu with ideas. Remember that a critical function of these workgroup meetings is to network between disciplines, campuses, AES-UCCE, county offices and campuses. We expect over 100 attendees and we need you there!
