Shade Garden

Shade Garden 1
The shade garden, situated under a large coastal Sequoia, is a setting for demonstrating plants that thrive in full shade (those at the base of the tree), as well as plants that do well in part-sun/part-shade situations (those around the perimeter of the tree's canopy).
Shade Garden 2
Here we demonstrate the concept of "micro-climates" and the effect of a large shade tree in the landscape. The emphasis in this garden is on shades and textures of foliage with a few touches of color from flowering plants. A dry streambed under the tree is edged in a selection of shade tolerant plants.
