Most years my tree Dahlias are blown down by the wind before they bloom. Although they often will bloom when laying on the ground I never thought about them as cut flowers. I guess because if they bloomed while upright there is no way to get up high enough to cut the bloom. This year I cut the flowers flat on the ground and was surprised how well they hold up in the vase.
