Non-native Mahonia
This Mahonia lomarifolia was popular in the nurseries 10 years ago when I bought it. This photo is taken from an eight foot ladder of the lowest bloom. The stems (looking like bamboo in the picture) go another 4 feet and each has a flower on top. Hummingbirds were buzzing me as I took this picture. These flowers are an important winter source of nectar. Blue berries follow the flowers to be consumed by the birds.
