OFF TO A GOOD START: A KINDERGARTEN READINESS PROGRAM

When children enter kindergarten they experience an important life transition.  With this transition the child moves, probably for the first time, to a structured learning environment.  The child's ability to handle this experience critically influences his or her sense of competence.  Success in kindergarten strongly predicts a child's future educational achievement.

The "Off To A Good Start" curricula was designed to help parents guide their preschool children in ways that promote their overall development as well as social and intellectual readiness for kindergarten.

RESEARCH PROJECT

The research project is being conducted to review the "Off To A Good Start" curricula's impact on parents' skills and their children's kindergarten readiness.  The study involves a demographics questionnaire, pre/post series survey, and a follow-up questionnaire.  This study is currently being conducted in Placer and San Diego Counties.

From this site, group leaders and administrators may enter their survey data from the "Off to a Good Start" series.  Remember, (1) A separate form must be entered for each parent; (2) It is very important that identification codes are entered so that pre- and post- tests may be matched; (3) Parents must have attended at least 5 of the 7 workshops, and have signed a consent form to qualify for the study.
