Research Interests

I am a plant ecologist with interests in both applied and basic ecology as that pertains to taxonomic diversity, rarity, community assembly and conservation. My dissertation research focused on the biogeographic and phylogenetic patterns of tree diversity at two sites in the tropical dry forest of Pacific Coast Mexico, and how those patterns change with elevation and latitude. I also worked on a study showing how species distribution models can be used alone or together to predict new populations of rare plants on serpentine soils.

As a postdoctoral scholar in the Jackson lab, I am currently working on two projects: (1) a carbon footprint study for an organic vineyard in Mendocino County, California; and (2) an assessment of how agricultural/pastoral practices of peasant farmers impact plant diversity and ecosystem services in the buffer zone of La Sepultura National Park in Chiapas, Mexico.
