Annual Public Deer Hunt Drawing
Controlled public deer hunting on the HREC is conducted only on the first three weekends of the usual North Coast region (Zone A) rifle deer season. This public hunt is conducted in associated with long-term research efforts to improve the management of Columbian black-tailed deer (Odocoileus hemionus) herds. The hunt is only for legal (forked-horn or better) bucks, and is in accordance with all Fish & Game regulations. It is the responsibility of hunters to have a valid hunting license and deer tags, and understand all applicable state game regulations.
Permits are issued to a maximum of 20 hunters per day. These permits are valid only for the date(s) issued are not transferable.
Application for the deer hunt drawing must be made in writing. The following information must be included in your application:

Alternatively, the application can be faxed to (707) 744-1040, Attention: Administrative Assistant. Please do not send any payment with your application.
By July 15th, you will be notified by mail of the date(s) for which you have been granted a permit. When you receive this notification, you will be asked to submit payment for your permit in order to hold this reservation. (Permits fees for the 2006 season were $65 per person per day, and are likely to increase in future years). This fee is not refundable.
All persons hunting on Center property or accompanying those who hunt, including employees, are required to sign a liability release prior to hunting. Additionally, we require that each hunter register his rifle by make, model, and serial number. Releases and rifle registration forms are made available to hunters the morning of the hunt at the Center's main office and in the hunter check station.
