Site Builder Instructions

Creating a new site

Creating a new site is easy in the Site Builder for Workgroups and Programs.  All of the County Extension Office sites have already been initiated.  If you would like to convert your county over to the Site Builder, call Karl Krist at 530-754-6596.

To create a new Workgroup or Special Program site, follow these steps:

Go to http://groups.ucanr.org

Click on the 'create new website' link near the bottom of the page, you will see the following form.

  • Group Name - Whatever you would like your group to be called.  This will appear on the standard header, before you request a customer header.  It will also appear twice on the main page, before the introduction, and before your projects.  You can edit this anytime you would like.
  • Group Shorthand - Group Shorthand is the one thing you cannot edit later.  This shorthand will be part of your URL.  Your URL will be as follows: groups.ucanr.org/shorthand  (where shorthand would be replaced by the shorthand you choose).  This can be a maximum of 10 characters, without the ? / . or , .  Once again, this cannot be changed later, so choose something that would be meaningful in a URL.
  • Group Description - This will initially be your mission statement.  This can be edited later.
  • Choose a Workgroup - If you are creating this site for a workgroup, choose the workgroup from the list.  This will bring in information from your workgroup proposal, and give you a start toward creating your website.
  • Will you be creating a website? - If you are only using the Site Builder to enter in Success Stories, or Calendar items, or using other features.  You can choose 'No'.  This will simplify the menu system, and take out all of the un-necessary features.  This can be changed later.
  • Your e-Mail Address - This will be the e-mail address that will appear as the 'webmaster' link at the bottom of every page.  The e-mail address used must be in the DANR directory to allow you to create the new website.
  • Editor Password - This password will be used to edit your website.  Anytime you need to login, (Logging In) you will need to enter this.  This can be shared with other people who need to make changes on your site.
