Site Builder Instructions

Linking Pages and Publishing Your Site

Linking Pages

Site Builder's built-in file code system allows you to quickly set up links to pages and programs from anywhere in the site. Consider the following example:

prog1

In the screenshot, you can see that this program is coded "program4346" with asterisks around it. If I now type in the code with the asterisks in Site Builder, it will automatically covert to a link to that program page. Here's the code again with the asterisks: Programs and Pages.

You can create links this way anywhere in Site Builder, from creating a link in the main navigation menu to the descriptions of your programs to the calendar entries.

All of the links will be converted when your page is published. This means that when you return to the text box where you put the code, you will see the code and not the link.

Publishing Your Site

Site Builder takes the information that you enter and stores it in a database on our server. Typically, this content management process is called dynamic since the data is called to a page based on what you need at the time you access it. The Site Builder administrator that you use to create your site is run dynamically, meaning that each page shows you the information based on the area of the site you on which you are working.

Static pages, as opposed to dynamic ones, do not change. They sit on the server and act much like a Word document, showing the same information to every person who reads the page.

In order to keep your URL addresses concise and minimize the activity on our database, Site Builder publishes the dynamic data to a static page. If you do not publish your pages when they are ready, the information on your site will not be updated. This is useful while you are creating or re-creating a program.

When you make a change to Site Builder that affects more than one page, you will see a purple box on the dashboard suggesting that you republish the entire site. Changes to your navigation menu or site colors would require a complete republish. Be sure that you don't have any programs that you do not want republished before you click the button. It will publish them.
