Converting from the old version of Site Builder
Converting to Site Builder 2.0 is fast and easy. You can choose to convert from the ANR Portal or directly through Site Builder.
Converting from the Portal

Converting from the ANR Portal is a one-click process, provided that you are the Webmaster for the site. Simply click the convert link, wait as Site Builder collects information about your site, and then click Republish Your Site when the conversion has completed.
Site Builder sites must be converted by the Webmaster. You can find out the Webmaster for a site by going to the site on the internet and clicking the "Web Master" link at the bottom of the page. Your email system will open and allow you to send an email to the Webmaster for the site.
If the email associated with the Web Master link is no longer active, or that person is no longer the webmaster, please contact Dave Krause at Communication Services.
Converting directly through Site Builder

You can convert from the old Site Builder by going directly to the address of the new Site Builder at http://ucanr.org/sitebuilder/. Simply find your Unit or Workgrups site, sign-in, wait as Site Builder collects information about your site, and then click Republish Your Site when the conversion has completed.
The new version of Site Builder requires an email and password to sign-in, and site conversion must be done using the Webmaster's email and password.
Converting from a site not built with Site Builder
If your existing site was not built with Site Builder, and you would like to take advantage of the benefits of using the Site Builder system, the following steps will help you with the transition.
Is Site Builder Right for You?
Site Builder is a template-driven content management system that allows users a fast and easy method to create and maintain Web sites. You do not need to know any HTML to build a site! However, Site Builder contains inherent limitations to the layout and functionality of sites built with it.
If you are looking to build a highly customized site which will use custom programming like Javascript, please contact Dave Krause for more information.
The Old into the New
If you've decided that Site Builder is right for you, don't delete your old site yet! You will likely need your existing site to help you during the transition. Since Site Builder will create a new URL for your site, you can safely build your new site while your old site stays active and available. Once you are ready to change completely over to the Site Builder site, contact Blaine Sullivan, who will help you connect your existing URL to the new Site Builder site.
Successful Text Transfer
During the transition, it is likely that you will copy and paste much of the old site's information into Site Builder. We recommend you convert your text to Plain Text first. This will strip out any lingering code from the text. Programs like Microsoft Notepad and Apple's TextEdit can convert text to Plain Text. Once your text is clean, you can copy and paste it from one of these programs into Site Builder. The resulting text will be easier to control and format.
Importing Your Images and Files
Site Builder makes quick work of uploading images and documents with the in-page File Library. However, if you have dozens of documents to enter, and you aren't sure where they will be placed, consider loading them using the main File Library. You can access the main File Library from the top right menu bar on any Site Builder page. A popup will open that allows you to enter multiple pictures and documents, group them anyway you like, and save them for future use.
Other Goodies
Site Builder's automated calendar and subscription-based newsletter/document sections allow you to manage content in different ways. Perhaps you have a recurring document that you place on your site, and this document is then emailed to a group of people. Consider using the newsletter/document system and developing a subscription list. Not only will your document be posted to your site in an organized fashion, your email list will automatically be alerted that the new document is ready to be downloaded from the site.
