Garden Education Resources

More Information
"From the garden, and the kitchen, and the table, you learn empathy - for each other and for all of creation; you learn compassion; and you learn patience and self-discipline. A curriculum that teaches these lessons gives children an orientation to the future - it can give them hope."  -Alice Waters

The Garden Web is a collaborative effort of a number of educational institutions and corporate partners committed to enhancing learning through the use of teaching gardens in schools and other community settings. Gardening with children has the potential to improve academic performance, increase ecological literacy, and improve dietary habits of children. Gardens can provide an economical and practical way to engage the school community and it's neighborhood in a creative investment in education. This website will provide you with the conceptual framework, tools, technologies, and connections to create, expand, and sustain a garden based learning experience. The website offers practical ideas and curriculum resources for every level of garden based learning from sprouting seeds to farming school grounds or community open space. The site also provides access to the latest research on the theory and practice of garden based learning. The site is divided into 12 theme areas with applications for primary and upper grade level students:
