Aseptic Processing and Packaging

Aseptic Processing and Packaging Short Course, UC Davis Buehler Alumni Center, was held  March 17-18th, 2009.

Agenda from 2009 course

Aseptic processing is a high-temperature, short-time process which results in products with improved texture, color, flavor, and nutritional value, compared to conventional canning. This technology involves the filling of pre-sterilized containers with a commercially sterile cooled product, followed by aseptic hermetic sealing with a pre-sterilized closure in an atmosphere free of microorganisms. This course focuses on the engineering, microbiological and chemical principles related to aseptic processing. Hands-on laboratories allow attendees to learn methods of aseptic product quality evaluation, packaging and equipment system design, including sterilization and liquid/particulate product flow.

Your enrollment fee of $600 includes all instruction, course materials, continental breakfasts, lunches, and morning coffee breaks.  Your enrollment is requested no later than March 10, 2009.

Enrollment will not be guaranteed until payment is received.  If your plans change, refunds, less a $75 processing fee, will be granted if requested at least 7 calendar days before the course begins.  At that time you may also discuss sending a substitute.

For the optional field trip to Creative Research Management in Stockton on Day 2 of the course (March 18th) at 3:00 pm, attendees will be using their own vehicles.  Informal carpooling is encouraged.

For a list of hotels, please see the Yolo County Visitors Bureau.  The closest hotels to the course venue, (The Walter A. Buehler Alumni Center), are the Best Western University Lodge and the Aggie Inn, but most of the hotels are quite close.   The exception is the Howard Johnson's, which is a little farther away on Chiles Road.

For air travelers, the closest airport is Sacramento International Airport.
