TYPES OF FUNDS

Current-Use Funds:  Current-use funds allow the entire gift to be spent for the fund's designated purpose.  Current-use funds do not remain active in perpetuity.

Endowed Funds:  Endowed funds permit only the interest income to be applied toward the fund's purpose.  The endowed fund principal is invested in perpetuity by the University of California's Office of the Treasurer and may be added to over time.

A Fund Functioning as an Endowment (FFE) functions as an endowed fund, however, the principal may be spent if necessary.

Terms:  The terms of the fund dictate how it will be administered by ANR and are agreed upon by the donor and the University in advance. Since endowed fund terms remain in perpetuity, it is important that they be as flexible as possible while maintaining the donor's intentions.  The establishment and naming of the fund must comply with University policy.

For more information:  If you would like to learn more about ANR or how to include it in your charitable giving plans, please contact ANR Development Services at cynthia.barber@ucop.edu or (510) 987-0135.
