Facilities
Desert Research & Extension Center facilities include 255 acres, an administration building complete with a laboratory and general purpose conference room, four greenhouses, a plant and soil processing laboratory with space for visiting scientists, mechanics shop, growth chamber, numerous storage buildings, three walk-in refrigerated coolers, insect-rearing facility, a weather station, and a reservoir used for water storage and irrigation.
Desert Research and Extension Center is home to the largest University research feedlot cattle facility in the United States in terms of pen replication, feedmill flexibility and sophistication. The feedlot has 36 pens with a capacity of 700 head of cattle, metabolism barn, fully-operational feedmill and specialized machinery required for milling operations.
Three single-family residences and two duplexes are available for University employees. A six-bedroom dormitory with cooking facilities is available for visiting students and faculty.
