What is a 4-H Presentation?
A presentation is a method used to communicate an idea by showing and/or telling. It can be a demonstration or a talk that uses posters and other visual aids.
A 4-H Presentation helps you learn to:

  • Research a subject
  • Organize ideas in a logical order
  • Be a teacher and practice public speaking skills.

Placer County Presentation Day will be patterned after the format for the 4-H Sectional and State Presentation Days. You can download the 4-H Presentation Manual, version #3 or Community Club Leaders and Presentation Project Leaders will have a copy and more copies can be obtained at the 4-H office.  This guide is a great resource of information!

Primary age members are welsome to participate at county level for a non-competitive experience. Qualifying members (4th grade and above) can move on to Sectional Competition (date TBA) and California State Presentation Day on May 29, 2010.

Presentation Formats: consult the 4-H Presentation Manual, version #3 for descriptions of each format.

  • Demonstrations and Illustrated Talks
  • Scientific Demonstrations and Illustrated Talks
  • Educational Display
  • Prepared Speech
  • Impromptu Speech
  • Interpretive Reading
  • Share the Fun
  • Cultural Arts
  • Audio-Visual Presentations
  • Problem Solving Presentations

To have a successful presentation it must contain the following:

  1. An introduction—it should briefly cover what is to be shown or told.
  2. A body—it should illustrate the subject logically and clearly.
  3. A summary—it should reiterate what has been said so that the audience takes away the main idea.
