Pomology Internship Program

 

University of California Cooperative Extension and the Almond Board of California are pleased to offer an exciting internship opportunity for graduate and undergraduate students in the agricultural and biological sciences.

 

 

Importance of Pomology

Tree crops, especially almonds, are collectively California’s most important crop economically, and growing in importance. California has greater than 700,000 acres of almonds, with a combined farm value of more than $3 billion/year. California is a major exporter of almonds, and the marketing and production expertise of California growers, processing companies, and the research expertise of UC Farm Advisors is well known throughout the world.

 

 

 

About the position

This internship will consist of two options:

  1. A Full time Graduate internship consisting of up to twelve months for Masters or PhD Students who have completed or are within a year of completing their program of study.
  2. Part time Undergraduate internship consisting of a full-time summer period (up to 3.5 months). This internship is aimed at undergraduate juniors or seniors who are interested in applied research and educational programs, and a career in this field.

 

Flexibility:

  • The program will have a high degree of flexibility to tailor a research-extension program to the interests of the student and the advisor
  • Start date will be flexible
  • But, full time required during the intern period

 

Participation in:

  • applied research methodologies
  • educational/outreach skills

Qualifications:

Student must:

  • be from any of the University of California, California State University, private university, or out-of-state campuses
  • be an Undergraduate (Junior or Senior) or a Graduate in the agricultural sciences (or related field)
  • be in good academic standing
  • have good writing and communication skills

 

Applicant must:

  • be willing to relocate
  • have a valid driver's license

 

Applicant should be interested in:

  • the interface between science and food production
  • applied sciences and agricultural systems
  • problem-solving
  • public education or outreach
  • working in Cooperative Extension or applied field research and education
