OUR MISSION:

The goal of the UCSB Public History website is to define the current pedagogy and practice; disseminate research, opportunities, and program information; to develop resources to facilitate research; and to encourage discourse about the field.

 

This website is an ongoing team project of UCSB Public History Program's students and faculty.

A Chronicle of Public History
This section provides information about the history of the profession, including a timeline and oral histories of those who helped define and build the modern field of public hisorical studies. A detailed history of UCSB's PH Program - the oldest in the United States - is also provided, and links to other sources of history on this topic are included.

The Public Historian
The Public Historian is published for the National Council on Public History by the University of California, Santa Barbara via the University of California Press. The Journal is THE voice of the public history movement, providing the results of research and case studies, and addressing the broad substantive and theoretical issues in the field.
