A pot luck snack bar (cheese, crackers, veggie trays, fruit trays, cookies, refreshments, etc) is planned from 3:30 to 4 p.m. and the modeling revue is at 4 p.m. followed by awards.

Entry forms will be sent to Clothing, Textile, Sewing, Arts & Crafts Leaders.  The event is open to all Stanislaus County members.

Please bring or mail to: 4-H Office, 3800 Cornucopia Way, Suite A, Modesto, CA 95358.  Must arrive by April 16th.  Include commentary, swatches, copy of pattern or drawing, photos as indicated in the category descriptions. 

Please type your commentary and attach to your entry form.  For each category that you are entering we will need a separate commentary.  Have someone read your commentary while you practice modeling. This will give you a better idea of how short or long you will need your commentary to be.

If you are a County winner, you may go on to the State Fashion Revue on May 29th at UC Davis.  Registration is online at the link below.  You will need pictures, swatches, and other required items with your State entry. DESCRIPTION OF CATEGORIES:

Traditional

*To showcase the member’s sewing skills and their ability to coordinate an outfit.

*Garment(s) sewn by the 4-H member

Consumer Science/Purchased:

*Member demonstrates positive consumer skills such as decision making in purchasing and coordinating an outfit.  The main focus is on value rather than cost.

*Second focus is versatility.  How will you incorporate the new with existing wardrobe.

*Maximum expenditure limit is $150 for all divisions.

*Value and cost are recorded

*Everything visible must be included in the purchased list including jewelry, shoes, socks, hair bow, etc.  Undergarments are not included.

*Receipts must be kept and photocopied

 Recycled: 
*Member designs and sews a wearable garment from previously used materials (other garments, not sheets or curtains).

*Completed garment must be different from its original use.

*Focus is on creativity as well as sewing skills

*New garment must show at least 50% change in construction.

Wearable Art/Embellished

 

*Decorate a garment(s) using arts and crafts techniques.

*Member may purchase or make garments.

*Focus is on creative techniques and workmanship as well as fit and coordination of the outfit.

 

Vest Challenge:

 *Construct a vest using pattern Simplicity 4762

*To alter for girls, move buttons to the opposite side.

*Vest can be made shorter or longer to fit

*Member may design useful additions and embellish, add pockets, ribbon, lace, etc.  Be creative!

*Purchase or sew an outfit to coordinate with the vest.

*Will be judged on appearance, features used to customize it, and how it coordinates with and adds to the ensemble worn by the member.
