South Central Sectional 4-H Council has budgeted $1000 for scholarships that will be divided between the selected 4-H members. Member may only be awarded the scholarship once.
Qualifications:
1. Must be a current 4-H Member.
2. Must be a graduating high school senior or have passed the CHSPE or GED.
3. Must study in his/her chosen field at a college/university or vocational school of applicant’s choice.
4. Must have a minimum of four (4) years of active participation in 4-H.
5. Must have participated in Community Service, Leadership, or Citizenship (4-H, school, community or other).
Application to Include:
• South Central Sectional 4-H Council Scholarship Application.
• Maximum of six (6) pages, typed, double-spaced essay written by the applicant titled: “My 4-H Story”
• Applicant must include two letters of reference with application:
1. One must be from a 4-H Volunteer Leader unrelated to applicant.
2. The other may be from a teacher, counselor, or other person within the community unrelated to applicant.
** Letters of reference must be in a sealed envelope, signed by the writer along the seal.
• A transcript of each high school attended, photocopy is acceptable.
Judging Criteria:
The primary criteria for this scholarship are level, quality, and quantity of 4-H participation. Selection Committee will consider the following:
Application and essay:
• Leadership and Citizenship exhibited both within the 4-H program and the community
• Achievements within 4-H and beyond
• Level of 4-H participation (project, club, county, section)
• Consistent dedication to activities while maintaining or progressing in personal development.
When are Scholarships Awarded?
South Central Sectional 4-H Council Scholarships will be announced by May 1, 2008. The checks will be awarded to the recipients after receiving official verification of college/university or vocational school enrollment. Scholarships will not be held beyond one school year of the date awarded unless prior committee approval has been made.
