The Citizenship Service-Learning Advisory Council has issued a Citizenship Challenge to all 4-H clubs in California. Take up the challenge and carryout a service-learning project as part of your club's year plan. Then let us know what you've done, so we can share your work on the web site. The UC Davis Student Fashion Association invites high school and college fashion designers and crafters to their second annual SFA Fashion Show on Saturday, March 8 at the Veteran's Memorial Theater in Davis. Student fashion designers can apply to show their designs, either one piece or a collection. Anyone can apply to sell handmade crafts at the show and tables in the gallery are $10. The show will also have a "Trashion" component highlighting fashions made from recycled materials, used clothing that has been re-styled, or anything relating to the concept of green fashion. Tickets to the evening show will be $5 with proceeds donated to charity. Attend one of the 2008 Statewide 4-H Recognition and Record Book trainings. These trainings are targeted towards a county training team (max 10 per county) of 4-H members (7th grade and up), 4-H volunteer leaders, and 4-H Staff. Trainings will be held on various dates throughout the state (note: additional dates are being offered). Veterinary Student Outreach, the UC Davis Veterinary Medicine's student club, is hosting active 4-H and FFA high school students at the UC Davis Veterinary Medicine Future Day. The event will be held at the Vet School on the Davis campus in late February. The aim is to promote further learning, encourage possible careers, and explore the science of veterinary medicine. The day will be filled with talks and discussions with current students and a tour of the teaching facilities and veterinary clinic.This event has limited space and the group is asking for recommendations for two students from surrounding counties by February 5, 2008. The Foundation for the Preservation of Honey Bees, Inc. has announced the essay topic and rules for the 2008 4-H Beekeeping Essay Contest. There will be three cash prizes for the national winners: 1st Place, $250; 2nd Place, $100; and 3rd Place, $50. Entries are due by February 15, 2008 to Eric Mussen, at the U.C. Present a track, mini-track or workshop at the 2008 4-H State Leadership Conference! Educational sessions are being sought in citizenship, healthy living, and science, engineering and technology. Tracks (5 hours) or mini-tracks (2.5 hours, repeated) take place on Friday, August 1, 2008 while workshops (1.25 hours) take place on Saturday, August 2, 2008. Proposals are due by February 29, 2008. The Livestock Judging Contest that serves as the 4-H California State Qualifier (winning senior team is eligible to represent California at the 4-H National Livestock Judging Contest in Kentucky) will be held at California State University at Fresno.
