Marin Master Gardeners, in partnership with Falkirk Cultural Center and the City of San Rafael, have created several gardens to be used for public education through seminars and workshops. The gardens demonstrate various low water use and habitat plantings consistent with Marin’s Mediterranean climate. The International Garden presents plants from five areas of the world—California, Chile, South Africa, Australia, and the Mediterranean basin—that share our climate of wet winters and long dry summers.
The Succulent Garden presents the interesting variation of forms, colors, and texture these plants exhibit, and The Habitat Garden provides shelter and forage for native bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.
The Falkirk Greenhouse is a vintage, working greenhouse, and is adjacent to the Pollinator Garden and Under Oaks Garden. Volunteers help water, plant, prune and propagate.

Both gardens feature drought resistant plants and will educate the public to wise-water use.
Hundreds of hours of volunteer labor by the Marin Master Gardeners have transformed the grounds at Falkirk. The two new gardens are beautiful and have greatly enhanced Falkirk’s entry drive. The lovely Mediterranean garden representing the world’s five Mediterranean climate zones is fully planted with well adapted specimens for Marin County.
