Restricted Use Materials : Many rodenticides are considered a restricted use material; these include such materials as zinc phosphide, aluminum phosphide and acrolein.

Only state certified commercial or private pesticide applicators may purchase or use restricted use materials. To obtain

award
certification, one must take examinations conducted by the Department of Pesticide Regulation. In California, a Restricted Use Permit is required for all restricted use materials. The permit can be obtained through your local agricultural commissioner and is only issued to currently certified commercial or private pesticide applicators.

Record-keeping of rodenticide use: When using rodenticides for agricultural use, restricted use, industrial use as post-harvest commodity treatment, outdoor institutional or industrial use, a pesticide use record is necessary and must be kept for at least 2 years and made available to DPR or local agricultural commissioner upon request.

They must include :

  • Date of application
  • Name of operator
  • Location
  • Crop commodity or site treated
  • Total acreage or units treated
  • Rodenticide (including EPA or state registration number)
  • Amount used
