Name: San Joaquin antelope squirrel (also known as Nelson's antelope squirrel)*
Distribution: Kern, Kings, western Fresno counties in California
General Characteristics: Yellow/brown or buff above with a single white strip on each side. Tail is white below. Diurnal, active in early morning and late evening. Active year-round.
Feeding Habits: Green vegetation, insects, seeds, some lizards and other rodents.
Habitat: Open, rolling or hilly desert and sandy areas. Shrubs in San Joaquin Valley, no shrubs in Kern County.
