The home range of the California ground squirrel is normally less than 150 yards across. Predators cause squirrels to remain close to the burrow entrance and limit foraging to that area. While most squirrels travel only short distances, some have been known to move from one to five miles into new areas. However, if you see ground squirrels, the burrows are usually near by.
