Grown In Marin

Agricultural Institute for Teachers

AgInstitute

Bring the extensive natural and cultural wonders of local Marin agriculture into your classroom! Integrate language arts, science, math, and social studies with experiential activities that will capture your students’ imaginations!

Register for the 2008-2009 school year NOW

We will visit ranches and farms and hear the voices of those who work the land, as well as sample some of our Marin grown products and foods. You will deepen your own understanding of Marin and the world around you while discovering multidisciplinary lessons that integrate with your everyday curriculum. The Institute covers the Food for Thought and Food, Land, and People curricula, as well as provides resources, in-classroom volunteers, assistance in using school gardens, and coordination of field trips and work days on ranches.

Special Note: Farm Field Studies trips organized by MALT will be preferentially reserved for teachers who have completed the Marin Agricultural Institute for Teachers course. Be sure to attend this summer so you can visit a farm with your class next school year.

"It has been informative and inspirational getting reconnected to the land!"

"Excellent presenters and panel discussions!"

About the 2008-2009 Institute:

Teachers who attend the Marin Agricultural Institute for Teachers will each receive a $100 stipend and access to credits from Dominican University.

There will be an introductory seminar the evening of Thursday, October 2, 2008 from 6-9 p.m. at the MCOE offices in San Rafael, followed by a day visiting farms on Saturday, October 11, 2008. We will stay in touch through regular email communication through the school year and reconvene for another field tour in the spring. We will work toward presentations at Farm Day and the County Fair and hold a final meeting in early May 2009 to present portfolios from the year.
