The second Floriculture & Nursery Workgroup meeting of 2004 will be held on June 9, 2004 at Lotusland, a 37-acre botanic garden in the foothills of Montecito (near Santa Barbara).

The meeting focuses on two topics: (1) water quality and (2) integrated pest management.

The Water Quality Symposium includes presentations by 11 extension specialists and farm advisors concerning research and educational programs addressing water quality issues.

The IPM session, led by Dr. Michael Parrella (Dept of Entomology, UCD), includes several presentations related to the development of integrated pest management programs and the Gerbera Pest Management Alliance project, with a tour of Westland Floral Nursery in Carpinteria.

This Workgroup meeting includes a tranquil lunch in the beautiful surroundings of Lotusland, with presentations on the history of the botanic garden and garden sustainability. Get set to enjoy a mini-tour of the unique landscape displays, which artistically preserve some of the most unusual and endangered plants in the world.

In addition to formal presentations, there will be an opportunity to display posters concerning any research and extension program related to the floriculture and nursery industry. Please notify Julie Newman (jpnewman@ucdavis.edu) if you would like to bring a poster and the topic of the poster presentation.

Anyone that contributes an abstract of their presentation or poster will have it published in the meeting's Proceedings.
