Large Format Printer Project
The Large Format Printer Project (7/00-6/02): With a budget of $39,000 an HP 5000PS printer was purchased and installed at ANR CS in Davis and over 1600 posters were printed without recharge for specialists, advisors, and offices and research facilities divisionwide. The service was based on the Slide Imaging Service that CS has been offering for many years. Our goal was to learn what resources and processes would be needed to develop a service that would be sustainable and cost effective for the division.
During two years as a pilot program, we learned a few things about the poster printing business:
- It doesn't require a fulltime staff person sitting around waiting for a poster request, to fullfill the request.
- The expertise among our current staff is extensive and a team approach is most effective.
- We are able to meet a turnaround time of 3-5 days with current resources.
- We are able to provide the service, essentially for the cost of materials only, resulting in substantial $ savings to ANR units.
- Online file submission provides easy access to the service for all ANR personnel regardless of location.
- Many folks in the division could really use some design help....
