What is Exchange and how would it work in our office?
Exchange allows you to access your email, just as if you were sitting in front of your computer, from any computer anywhere with Internet access. This includes all of the mail in your mailboxes or folders that you have already downloaded to your computer. You can also share calendars and contact lists using Exchange. It allows everyone in the office to schedule meetings, see each others' calendars, or schedule resources like office cars or conference rooms. Microsoft Outlook is the email program you would use for your email, calendaring, and shared contacts.
The UC Davis campus operates the Exchange server. You can do shared calendaring with anyone who has an account on the Exchange server, including other Cooperative Extension offices and UCD campus departments that are using it.
Do we automatically get Exchange when we join the security project?
No. We can add you to Exchange when we come out to set up your office, but your office will have to pay the $7.50 per mailbox per month that the campus charges for Exchange accounts.
How do I access my emails when I am away from the office?
Use Outlook Web Access by going to http://owa.ucdavis.edu. If your office computer is a laptop, a better way is to configure your Outlook to use RPC over HTTP. This will allow you to use Outlook anywhere you take your laptop.
How do I set up Out of Office Auto Reply?
Use Outlook's built-in Out of Office Assistant. Refer to MSKB290846 for more information.
